These lovely gardens are about 19 acres in extent and lie less than 1 mile from the centre of Sheffield.   The grounds are Victorian, landscaped and laid out in the Gardenesque style by the first curator Robert Marnock.   The gardens were opened as a private venture in 1836.

The tour will be guided by the members of the Friends of the Botanical Gardens, the tour, weather permitting will last approximately 90 minutes, starting at the Clarkehouse road entrance.   In case of inclement weather there will be an inside talk.

At the end of the tour refreshments will be provided and the opportunity to purchase publications at the new Demonstration Centre.   This building adjoins the glasshouse section and yard at the Thompson Road end of the gardens.

This event is being held in memory of John Freeman, and will be enjoyed by members and their partners alike and should not be missed.

A collection will be made in aid of the IEE Benevolent Fund.
